The time travel-App
Turn back time and experience what Wesel once looked like - this is possible with the free "Zeitfenster Wesel" (time winsow)-App. The destruction of Wesel during the Second World War almost completely erased more than 700 years of history. The interactive app brings this history back to life: Using "augmented reality", time travel takes you through the city, looking through the camera of your smartphone or tablet as if through a window into the past.
The digital city tour allows visitors to familiarise themselves with Wesel at 18 stations by comparing historical images with today's view. Audio guides and texts provide interesting background information.
Jan Hofer, a native of Wesel and long-standing narrator of the "Tagesschau" news programme, takes users on an exciting journey in the German-language audio guide!
The content of the app was created by WeselMarketing in collaboration with the Wesel town archives. The texts were translated into English by Claus-Dieter Schmidtke's pupils from the bilingual history course in year 11 at Konrad-Duden-Gymnasium. The soundtrack for the English audio guide was provided by pupil Victoria Kronemeyer.
