Liberation
Route
Embark on a historical cycle tour along the Rhine and discover the traces of history surrounding the Second World War in Wesel.
Listening station on the rhine: A listening station of the Liberation Route is located in the immediate vicinity of the Wacht am Rhein in Büderich. An EU-wide project that reenacts the liberation route of the Allied troops from the French coast to the German capital. The audio station in Büderich describes the historic appearance of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in March 1945.
The route also leads to other interesting places around Wesel, each of which has its own story to tell about the Second World War. It combines the natural experience of the Rhine floodplain with the historical highlights of the Hanseatic city.
