Hanseatic League in modern times
The Hanseatic heritage remains unforgotten to this day
And it continues to be an important source of identity for Wesel: be it with tourist experience offers or the popular historical Hanseatic Festival in autumn. Since 1997, the Hanseatic Guild has helped to keep the Hanseatic heritage in Wesel alive and the Hanseatic community lives as well on in the representative association at national and international level to form the modern Rhenish Hanseatic League with the towns of Neuss, Dinslaken, Emmerich am Rhein and Kalkar/Grieth.
Last but not least, the Hanseatic city has made its strong ties clearly visible with the unique Hanseatic ribbon on the pedestrian zone since 2013. 185 cities belonging to the Hanseatic League of the Modern Era or the Westphalian Hanseatic League can be found here by name between Berlin Gate and Great Market.
